We are proud to announce that one of the most promising new talents in the urban music scene, Jesse Markin, has joined VILD Music.

Jesse Markin is a Liberian-born singer-songwriter from Finland. Markin is known from a group called The Megaphone State in which he performed as a vocalist for 12 years. The group produced three critically acclaimed hip-hop albums. With his solo project, Markin takes leaps forward both musically and thematically and broadens his expression from rapping also to singing.

I wanted to approach serious topics with honest interpretations, topics like love, xenophobia, hope, lust for money, loneliness and brotherhood. These are things that affect me on a daily basis. Also, breaking my own limits was an important part of this project that I’ve been working on for the past four years. I love music and I hope people can feel that“, Markin explains.

Markin’s first release on VILD Recordings is a double single consisting of the songs Blood and Will Shoot. The single is released today on May 18th worldwide.

With Blood I wanted to emphasize the fact that as people, there are more things that connects us than divides us. The need to be a part of a bigger whole is within all of us. Musically I wanted to show that we are all free to express ourselves, you don’t have to follow a single path. You just have to follow your voice and be ready for sacrifices. Will Shoot is thematically basically the opposite to Blood. Feeling powerless in this world is something that keeps resurfacing in my life. It is frustrating, but in Will Shoot I feel that I have been able to address those feelings with lyrics. A simple, bare approach felt like the right option for the song that brings emotions into a contact distance“, describes Markin.

Have You Ever Seen the Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? ‘sophomore long play Jazzbelle 1984/1988’ out now!

Across the course of 11 ‘flower-garage’ tunes, each catchier and more chaotic than the last, HYESTJFAVHS? establish themselves as one of the most exciting and infectious bands to come out of Scandinavia in recent years.

The trio have carved out a unique sound for themselves, opting to use keyboards instead of guitars. This is after songwriter Ekku Lintunen and drummer Janne-Petteri, on seeing the film Drive, instantly decided to form an 80s synth-pop band as a side project to the garage-rock act they were in at the time. When Susse Stemma-Sihvola came in on vocals, bringing her scuzzed out bass tones with her, it ended up being garage-rock with a twist.

They are further shaped by the aesthetic and sonics of the underground cassette culture punk bands in their small town of Kouvola rely on, as well as the thread of styles that have tied the towns musical history together through the decades. A mish-mash of 60s girl-groups, punk, glam, grunge and NYC/Manchester indie coming together to generate their electrifying style.

Lintunen likens his songwriting to crafting surreal movies. Starting with a picture in his mind, he throws out lyrical phrases to create this image for the listener. Enough is held back though that there are more questions than answers. Like all great films, the listener interprets as they do.

Throughout, the album is two-tone. At times playful, and pop-centric, at others darker, more intense. Across the 11 tracks presented HYESTJFAVHS? make whimsical references to He-Man, and Modern Family’s Phil Dunphy as well as including a track titled Hanky Panky. However, there’s also a sadder element – it’s a semi-breakup album, half the tracks written pre- and post-. Hence, there are explorations of both the excitement and disappointment of love.

After their debut album Teenage Sweetheart was released in autumn 2015 the trio have been praised in the international music media, and gathered fans around the world. This includes support from BBC Radio’s Huw StephensSteve Lamacq, Phil TaggartChris Hawkins and Tom Ravenscroft, and the likes of Consequence of SoundForbesDrowned in SoundsMTV IggyThe Line of The Best Fit and Clash Magazine.

As well as the above media acclaim, they are routinely picked out as livehighlights at Europe’s buzziest festivals (Roskilde Festival (DK), Flow Festival (FI),Pohoda(SK), Reeperbahn Festival (DE), The Great Escape (UK), Farm Fest (UK), Kendal Calling (UK), Eurosonic (NL) and Europavox (FR).

Have You Ever Seen Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? are back with a new single ‘Bambi Act’

Jane Fonda VHS 2 by Heidi Kero

The Under the Radar-approved garage pop trio Have You Ever Seen the Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? are back with a new single ‘Bambi Act’ which is the third cut from their second album ‘Jazzbelle 1984 / 1988’ due to be released on January 19th on VILD Recordings.

After the album release, the band heads out to play clubs and festivals in Europe and in the UK.

‘A man falls for another man. Man goes to a sex change operation, and now as a woman, charms her beloved and soon we can hear their wedding bells. Happiness proves to be false and she gets rejected. Shocked by this dreadful event, unhappy incidents occure and by wrong choices she ends up on the street turning tricks with her decaying body. What’s your interpretation?’, describes Ekku Lintunen, the songwriter and Casio wizard of the band.

After their debut album ‘Teenage Sweetheart’ was released in fall 2015 the Finnish garage pop trio has been praised in the international music media and they have gathered fans around the world. The band has claimed support from the likes of well known BBC Radio DJ’s Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq, Phil Taggart, Chris Hawkins and Tom Ravenscroft.

They have been featured on Consequence of Sound, Forbes, Drowned in Sounds, MTV Iggy, The Line of The Best Fit and Clash Magazine to name a few. Their concert highlights include performances at Roskilde Festival (DK), Flow Festival (FI), Pohoda (SK), Reeperbahn Festival (DE), The Great Escape (UK), Farm Fest (UK), Kendal Calling (UK), Eurosonic (NL) and Europavox (FR). Among festivals HYESTJFAVHS? played their first UK-tour in fall 2016 and have played club shows also in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Netherlands.

Consisting of Susanna Stemma-Sihvola (vocals & bass), Ekku Lintunen (keyboards & vocals) and Janne-Petteri Pitkälä (drums), Have You Ever Seen the Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? replace the customary guitar with Casio keyboards and Eco-organs for delivering ear splitting riffs – an unusual move that has set them apart from their peers. Combine this approach with a name like HYESTJAFVHS? and it’s easy to see why the trashy punk trio have never struggled to grab people’s attention.

VESTA – “Ota Varovasti” -sinkku ja kevätkiertue!

Muun muassa Soundin vuoden tulokkaan palkinnon pokannut Vesta on tehnyt niin faneihin kuin kriitikoihinkin lähtemättömän vaikutuksen kohtalokkaalla äänellään ja koskettavilla sanoituksillaan. Viime perjantaina pöhinä kohosi uusiin korkeuksiin, kun Vesta julkaisi uuden ”Ota Varovasti” –sinkkunsa, joka tuo juuri sopivan määrän sähköä ja kaihoa talven pimeyteen.

Leave a Comment – View’s long awaited debut album Out Now!

View - Leave a Comment cover artView, AKA 25 year old Juuso Ruohonen, proffers a confessional, confident debut album, ‘Leave A Comment’, out today via VILD Recordings.

Following the release of the hard-hitting, ‘Trippin’ Sober’, and softer, more intimate gems ‘Deeper (Bitch Leave a Comment)’ and ‘Say It Again’ which are centered around laid-back vocals by Ronya and Kasmir, View’s debut LP demonstrates the multi-talented artist’s ability to switch up his sound to capture a spectrum of genre and mood. Grime, hip-hop, ballads, dub step; it’s all present and crafted so exquisitely that it triumphs at every hurdle.

In conjunction with the release of ‘Leave A Comment’, a 3-part music video will be released promoting album highlights ‘Do It Again’, ‘Burn Slow’ and ‘Bad Habits’.

Sheep portrays a more pop side of the band. Sure the familiar elements are present, and yes, you heard it right: it was a guitar. This song was demoed about four years ago, but for some reason it was shelved and we never considered it to be released on our debut album. But here it is now. After successfully releasing their debut album ‘Teenage Sweetheart’, Have You Ever Seen the Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? return with a new single ‘Magic Swimming Pants’. Out on VILD Recordings on July 28th.

‘Magic Swimming Pants’ is somewhat typical HYESTJFAVHS?-tune with its raw sound, earworm-melodies and surreal lyrics. “An Anthem of late summer for the freeminded.”, describes Ekku Lintunen, the Casio wizard of the band.

Along the release Have You Ever Seen the Jane Aerobic VHS? head over to the UK for three festival shows. On the last weekend of July the band is playing LeopalloozaFarmfest and Kendal Calling.

Consisting of Susanna Stemma-Sihvola (vocals & bass), Ekku Lintunen (keyboards & vocals) and Janne-Petteri Pitkälä (drums), Have You Ever Seen the Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? is a strange bird in the Finnish rock scene not only because of it’s long name, but also because the band doesn’t have a guitar player. Instead melodies and distorted sound walls are created by good old Casio and Eco-organs. Packed with 60’s girl group/soul-melodies, bubble gum punk riffs and pounding drums, which will make your eardrums bleed, this newcomer is truly something to get to know.
