Across the course of 11 ‘flower-garage’ tunes, each catchier and more chaotic than the last, HYESTJFAVHS? establish themselves as one of the most exciting and infectious bands to come out of Scandinavia in recent years.

The trio have carved out a unique sound for themselves, opting to use keyboards instead of guitars. This is after songwriter Ekku Lintunen and drummer Janne-Petteri, on seeing the film Drive, instantly decided to form an 80s synth-pop band as a side project to the garage-rock act they were in at the time. When Susse Stemma-Sihvola came in on vocals, bringing her scuzzed out bass tones with her, it ended up being garage-rock with a twist.

They are further shaped by the aesthetic and sonics of the underground cassette culture punk bands in their small town of Kouvola rely on, as well as the thread of styles that have tied the towns musical history together through the decades. A mish-mash of 60s girl-groups, punk, glam, grunge and NYC/Manchester indie coming together to generate their electrifying style.

Lintunen likens his songwriting to crafting surreal movies. Starting with a picture in his mind, he throws out lyrical phrases to create this image for the listener. Enough is held back though that there are more questions than answers. Like all great films, the listener interprets as they do.

Throughout, the album is two-tone. At times playful, and pop-centric, at others darker, more intense. Across the 11 tracks presented HYESTJFAVHS? make whimsical references to He-Man, and Modern Family’s Phil Dunphy as well as including a track titled Hanky Panky. However, there’s also a sadder element – it’s a semi-breakup album, half the tracks written pre- and post-. Hence, there are explorations of both the excitement and disappointment of love.

After their debut album Teenage Sweetheart was released in autumn 2015 the trio have been praised in the international music media, and gathered fans around the world. This includes support from BBC Radio’s Huw StephensSteve Lamacq, Phil TaggartChris Hawkins and Tom Ravenscroft, and the likes of Consequence of SoundForbesDrowned in SoundsMTV IggyThe Line of The Best Fit and Clash Magazine.

As well as the above media acclaim, they are routinely picked out as livehighlights at Europe’s buzziest festivals (Roskilde Festival (DK), Flow Festival (FI),Pohoda(SK), Reeperbahn Festival (DE), The Great Escape (UK), Farm Fest (UK), Kendal Calling (UK), Eurosonic (NL) and Europavox (FR).

it’s hard not to be suckered into their glee.’ – The Line of Best Fit

The Under the Radar-approved garage pop trio Have You Ever Seen the Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? are back with a new single ‘Sheep’ which is the second cut from their second album ‘Jazzbelle 1984 / 1988’  due to be released on January 19th on VILD Recordings.

Sheep portrays a more pop side of the band. Sure the familiar elements are present, and yes, you heard it right: it was a guitar. This song was demoed about four years ago, but for some reason it was shelved and we never considered it to be released on our debut album. But here it is now. An attempt to reduce ovinaphobia.’, describes Ekku Lintunen, the songwriter and Casio wizard of the band.

After their debut album ‘Teenage Sweetheart’ was released in fall 2015 the Finnish garage pop trio has been praised in the international music media and they have gathered fans around the world. The band has claimed support from the likes of well known BBC Radio DJ’s Huw StephensSteve Lamacq, Phil Taggart, Chris Hawkins and Tom Ravenscroft. They have been featured on Consequence of Sound, ForbesDrowned in Sounds, MTV Iggy, The Line of The Best Fit and Clash Magazine to name a few. Their concert highlights include performances at Roskilde Festival (DK), Flow Festival (FI), Pohoda (SK), Reeperbahn Festival (DE), The Great Escape (UK), Farm Fest (UK), Kendal Calling (UK), Eurosonic (NL) and Europavox (FR). Among festivals HYESTJFAVHS? played their first UK-tour in fall 2016 and have played club shows also in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Netherlands.

Consisting of Susanna Stemma-Sihvola (vocals & bass), Ekku Lintunen (keyboards & vocals) and Janne-Petteri Pitkälä (drums), Have You Ever Seen the Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? replace the customary guitar with Casio keyboards and Eco-organs for delivering ear splitting riffs – an unusual move that has set them apart from their peers. Combine this approach with a name like HYESTJAFVHS? and it’s easy to see why the trashy punk trio have never struggled to grab people’s attention.

After successfully releasing their debut album ‘Teenage Sweetheart’, Have You Ever Seen the Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? return with a new single ‘Magic Swimming Pants’. Out on VILD Recordings on July 28th.

‘Magic Swimming Pants’ is somewhat typical HYESTJFAVHS?-tune with its raw sound, earworm-melodies and surreal lyrics. “An Anthem of late summer for the freeminded.”, describes Ekku Lintunen, the Casio wizard of the band.

Along the release Have You Ever Seen the Jane Aerobic VHS? head over to the UK for three festival shows. On the last weekend of July the band is playing LeopalloozaFarmfest and Kendal Calling.

Consisting of Susanna Stemma-Sihvola (vocals & bass), Ekku Lintunen (keyboards & vocals) and Janne-Petteri Pitkälä (drums), Have You Ever Seen the Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? is a strange bird in the Finnish rock scene not only because of it’s long name, but also because the band doesn’t have a guitar player. Instead melodies and distorted sound walls are created by good old Casio and Eco-organs. Packed with 60’s girl group/soul-melodies, bubble gum punk riffs and pounding drums, which will make your eardrums bleed, this newcomer is truly something to get to know.

“Imagine Courtney Love covering Plastic Bertrand’s Ça Plane Pour Moi and you have a pretty good insight into the bands modus operandi. HYESTJFAV? combine the sound and energy of 60s garage rock and girl groups with a real sense of joyful abandon.” – The Line of Best Fit

“HYESTJFAVHS? recordings may have a shambolic charm, all the edges fuzzed out with loose playing and distortion, but live they’re whip smart and super tight, fizzing through their set with a precision that belies their slacker appearance. It’s one of the best things I witness all weekend.”Drowned in Sound

“The wild, loud, fuck-it-I’ll-just-have-a-beer-and-dance-a-bit vibe is clearly transmitted, and got the crowd dancing the last time they played in Denmark, at Roskilde Festival.”Bitchslap Magazine

The album is packed with 60’s girl group/soul melodies, bubble gum punk riffs and pounding drums, so this newcomer is truly something to get to know. The band tells that although the lyrics might seem a bit grim and disturbing from time to time, the energy and mood of the songs grabs you by the wrist and seduces you to turn up the volume, let it loose and jump around the tunes, singing along just like you did as a kid.
