Following the success of his previous EP and single releases, the Finnish multi-instrumentalist and indie pop wizard Jaakko Aukusti returns with his debut album, Mountain, set to drop today on January 20th 2017 via VILD Recordings.
Mountain is an ambitious pop record. The songs hiding inside it are written within a span of almost four years – some songs were already taking form before the recording sessions of the 2015 EP, Volcano, and some were born in the warm depths of the studio and in the dim blue light of a laptop at home just months before the album’s release.
Mountain explores the mindscape of a young musician. As Jaakko Aukusti explains, “the songs open tiny fleeting windows to a young man’s hyperactive thoughts: the growing pains, the tiny anxieties, the happiness that strikes like fireworks, the ever present sense of not belonging, not being enough, not doing enough, being too tired, never getting enough sleep but still loving and embracing every minute of every day.”
The album features also dozens of cheap and expensive synthesizers, cool tangly guitars, hundreds and hundreds of different percussion tracks, breathtaking views over and beyond the horizon and one musician’s idea of how pop music could and should sound like.
Hailing from Turku, Finland, Jaakko Aukusti is a musician-multi-instrumentalist who makes sort-of-pop-ish music coloured with playful arrangements and unconventional song structures. His debut EP, Volcano, was released via VILD Recordings early in 2015. The single Shadow Boxer claimed loads of radio attention in Finland and stirred music enthusiasts also abroad in publications like Indie Shuffle. His latest single releases What If All Else Fails?, Moon Tower and Himalaya also caught the attention from the likes of Clash, The Line of Best Fit, All Things Go and Fame Magazine and also tons of smaller music blogs around Europe and U.S.A.
