Phantom’s “MMXII” is out internationally today!

Phantom - MMXII / VILD032

Helsinki based electro-pop duo Phantom releases their debut album, MMXII, internationally on the 24th of February 2017.

MMXII is a report letter from aliens to Earth. It’s a reflection of the era, of a ten-thousand-year puberty of the human mind. It’s a process of balancing love and letting go, of the ability to response and the ability to impulse through the heart’s eye. This album is the love child of two lovers of art, technology, literature, music and nature, and a fruit of love of living this life, for better and for worse. This is dedicated to all the heart-wrenching horrors, thrills, disappointments, ecstatic joy, love and excitement we’ve faced, to all of what we’ve left behind and all of what we’ve got yet to face, to the deaths and births, to the heartbreaks and pieces mend together after being torn into pieces. This is for it all. Us. Being boldly vulnerable, open and epically honest, letting life happen. Forever onwards, and into the fragility of being human in this huge retrospective of star stuff. Nothing more, nothing less.

”A little bit of the Knife, a smattering of Björk and enough eerie ambience to leave you thoroughly entranced.”
– Drowned in Sound

“A great duo that we like to describe as the Finnish Portishead.”
– Chris Hawkins, BBC6 Radio

”There’s a lot to love about formally trained jazz singer Hanna Toivonen and beat-maker Tommi Koskinen, not least their ability to turn creeping, nocturnal electronica that could be coolly standoffish in lesser hands, into big, heartfelt ballads you want tocurl up and cry in.”
– The Guardian

Phantom are releasing “Lost” internationally today

phantom-lost

Helsinki-based, dark electronic duo Phantom releases their single, Lost, internationally on February 17th via VILD Recordings. It is the last single release from the duo’s debut album MMXII, due to be released on February 24th.

“The ten-thousand-year-puberty of the human mind – and some lost luggage”, that’s what the song Lost is about. Inspired by 1200’s poets in the Middle East and their very absurdly relevant ideals, the sinking, beautiful city of Venice, and its Biennale of art where we played opening week shows in 2013, a very old, sad and wise man in Venice, a crazy Swedish business man, a depressed billionaire art collector… And the profound solitude of our planet, and its irrational leader species, who can’t stop its self-destructive ways of dealing with fear and an inferiority complex towards the nature of the Universe.

Phantom 2 by Andre Pozusis net

Phantom is the fruit of love of two artists, music lovers, geeks, misfits and treadmill rebels, who funnel their existence in the time-space-continuum into something of a new media spiced black magic.

It all started in 2012, in a cave underground and outside of Helsinki, in the fortress island 18th century bastion, that, some say, inhabits some deeply disturbed Russian ghosts. The ghosts have nothing to do with this story. Or the Russians. Nevertheless.

After drinking way too much coffee and playing with their musical toys together, the slightly jazz, glitch and acid influenced pair decided to join forces. They merged into creating sounds to summon the stories of the dead and the unheard into a somewhat haunting mixture of alternative pop, nu-trip hop and electronica.

To beef up the out-of-this-world experience the band built in their laboratories some pretty rad multi-dimensional elements to visualize and rapturize their electro-knob geekish performance. The UFO (Ultrasonic Frequency Oscillator) controller and Z-Vector (Kinect magic VJ software) were born.

Their biggest dream is to change the world and have superpowers.

Phantom releases “Dance” internationally

Phantom - Dance / VILD031

Helsinki-based, electronic duo Phantom releases Dance internationally today via VILD Recordings. The track is taken from their debut album MMXII, due to be released internationally on the 24th of February 2017.

Dance is a song about life’s own prototypes in love, lust and humanity’s paradoxal ideals. Doors in black hallways, a dawn in the pitch black night, a violin march band on the deathbed of a thousand dreams, and the ashes of which new life can be born, the magic and beauty that require pain and compromise but can’t be found when looking for. Dance is a love song for the most obvious hiding under the surface. It is a comfort song for the life-sentenced. It is a calling song, for the risks worth taking.
